We have had the pleasure of working with The Magpie Project for over 3 years now, so thought it was time we introduced them on our new blog!
The Magpie Project provides a safe, nurturing and supportive place for Mums and under-fives who are suffering in temporary or insecure accommodation in Newham, London. They support them not just with the essentials they need to survive, but connect them to other services, as well as provide a space where they can connect with each other, provide activities for the children, space for them to play and explore, and for Mums to engage with their creativity through music, dance, fashion collabs and more...they really are simply amazing.
We've worked with them weekly since 2018, singing, connecting and creating many a song over the years in collaboration with the fab Magpie Mums and minis. One of our TOTAL faves is 'Shake With Me' whose beautiful melody was penned by a lovely Mum and her son, and we just fell in love with the Turkish melody and vibe!!
She kindly lent us the melody, and together we gave it some lyrics, all about shaking, moving and dancing. We recorded in a couple of years ago and it's been waiting in the wings, ready to come to life on our YouTube channel!
So thanks to a recent Arts Council grant, we recently hit the studio with some beaut Magpie families, and are so delighted to have released it, below. Check it out, share, and if you can, please donate to this amazing, wonderful, life changing and life affirming charity.
